New Eket traditional ruler pledges open administration

THE newly elected paramount ruler in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, Obong Nathaniel Odunenyie, has pledged to administer the traditional institution in the area in conjunction with other traditional rulers.
The Traditional Rulers’ Council in Eket, Southern Akwa Ibom, recently elected Odunenyie  as the paramount ruler in the area.
Odunenyie, who made the pledge in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Eket, described leadership as a burden that should be borne collectively and called on his colleagues to work with him as a team.
According to him, “I call on my fellow traditional rulers, who have unanimously reposed confidence in me, sustain the unity and let us work as a team.
“I am not ‘Mr know all’ leadership is a burden, do not allow me to bear it alone, do not leave  me alone.
“Together we shall rule and my success on the throne shall be your success.
“We shall put our heads together, work as a team and with the goodwill and support of our people, we shall provide them with the type of leadership that will bring development.’’
He called on his people to join hands with the traditional rulers to preserve the culture and identity of Eket people for generations to come and prayed for God’s guidance and wisdom throughout his tenure.
The traditional ruler attributed his emergence to the grace of God and thanked God for keeping him in good health to occupy the throne of leadership.
Oduneyie was until his elevation, the clan head of Eket Afaha and a member of Eket Traditional Rulers’ Council.
The traditional stool in Eket is usually occupied by any of the three clan heads, Eket Afaha, Okon Eket and Offiong Eket, nominated to the Traditional Rulers’ Council for approval.
