OBA'S FUNERAL RITES: COUNCIL DIRECTS RESIDENTS NOT TO COOK WITH FIRE
The Benin Traditional Council (BTC), has urged residents in Benin City not to cook with fire to-morrow, June 5, as part of the activities of the burial rites of the late Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa.
In a statement by the secretary of the council, Mr Frank Irabor, Sun¬day (tomorrow), according to the royal funeral rite programme, is Igberimwin.
The statement said cooking without fire was in accordance with Benin customs and tradition at a time the burial rite of a late monarch is being held in the kingdom and all Binis as well as non-indigenes in the kingdom are expected to observe the Igberimwin rites.
Meanwhile, the Crown Prince of Be¬nin Kingdom and Edaiken N’Uselu, His Royal Highness, Amb Ehenede Erediauwa has said the traditional institution of the Benin is not partisan just as the September 10 governorship election in the state draws closer.
Edaiken N’Uselu stated this when he received a delegation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors who were at the Oba’s palace in Benin City. The gov¬ernors were Comrade Adams Oshiomhole of Edo, Alh Rauf Aregbe¬sola of Osun, Mr Simon Lalong of Plateau and Alh Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto.
Crown Prince Erediauwa who appreciated the governors for fraternizing with the royal family however prayed for the success of the governorship election in the state adding that the palace of the Oba of Benin can’t be seen supporting any aspirant.
Meanwhile, the deputy Senate president, Senator Ike Ekweremadu yesterday charged traditional institutions in the country to join in the fight to make positive contributions to the country to ensure its peace, unity and de¬velopment.
Senator Ekweremadu stated this when he led some members of the National Assembly on behalf of the senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki to Benin City, to condole with the Crown Prince HRH Eheneden Erediauwa, and the Benin Royal Family over the death of the Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa.
