Gov Akpabio presents N70bn supplementary budget

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, has presented a supplementary budget of N70bn to the state House of Assembly for approval.

The Clerk of the House, Mrs. Mandu Umoren, presented the proposal to the House at its plenary in Uyo on Thursday.
It was learnt that the N70bn supplementary estimate was for capital expenditure to enable the state government  to complete all the ongoing projects.
Akpabio urged the House to expedite action on the passage of the supplementary estimate presented by him.
The House also passed a resolution directing the governor to mandate all security agencies in the state to curb the activities of sea pirates in the state’s  waterways.
It also urged the Ministry of Defence to provide gun boats and other weapons to the Naval Base at Ikot Abasi for maximum protection of the  coastal area.
The resolution was a follow-up to a motion of urgent public importance brought to the House by its leader and member representing Ibeno/Esit Eket state constituency, Mr. Okpolupum Ette.
Ette said that sea pirates had in the last two months hampered fishermen and boats operators from carrying out their legitimate activities.
